Abstract

935,753. Spanners. C. R. TIPPING & CO. Ltd. Jan. 5, 1960 [Jan. 28, 1959], No. 3020/59. Class 61. A socket for use in manipulating nuts, bolts, screws, and the like, comprises a body wherein each end is adapted to accommodate a nut, bolt head or the like, the body having an axial straight line or parallel-walled bore extending between the recessed ends for accommodating and coacting with a driving or manipulating tool. As shown, each end of the socket body 1 has a recess 2, 3 respectively adapted to receive a nut &c. The internal walls of the respective recesses are in the form of serrations or teeth. Alternatively, the recesses may be square or hexagonal in cross-section. The portion between the recesses 2, 3 is provided with an axial opening 4 of hexagonal, triangular, square or other cross-section. In a modification, one end of the socket body has a reduced end in which is formed a much smaller nut-receiving recess. In another modification, the reduced end of the socket has an hexagonal external shape to coact with an appropriately-shaped recess in a screw head.
