Abstract

935,348. Electric selectors. TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L. M. ERICSSON. May 26, 1960 [June 2, 1959], No. 18677/60. Class 40 (4). The operating magnet of a code-bar relay selector controls an operating lever which combines with a selected interponent to form a toggle mechanism which when an operating magnet is released is sprung to actuate a contact set. The selector is of the kind described in Specification 832,865 and the provision of a toggle mechanism gives a high velocity ratio which permits the use of small operating magnets and a consequent reduction in current consumption. As shown in Fig. 1, the operating magnet 1 has an armature 3 linked to an operating lever 6 which in the unselected condition of an interponent 7 and with magnet 1 unenergized rests without operatively engaging the interponent. Should the code bars 12 present a slot to accept a feeler arm 15 the interponent is spring-biased to engage the top edge of operating lever 6, as shown in Fig. 2, when the magnet 1 is energized. When the magnet is de-energized the spring 14 withdraws the armature 3, restores the operating lever 6 and raises the interponent in toggle fashion as permitted by slot 11 thereby operating the spring-set post 13 as shown in Fig. 4. If no slot is offered by the code bars the interponent cannot engage the lever when the magnet is energized and restores to the position shown in Fig. 1 when the magnet de-energizes. With the code-bars set to select a different interponent the operating lever 6 pivots further than the interponent when the magnet is energized, thereby releasing one spring-set by breaking the toggle connection before operating another.
