Abstract
934,605. Stuffing-box substitutes; piston packings. B.A.L. Ltd., and A. LOWE. March 7, 1960 [March 20, 1959], No. 9677/59. Classes 122 (1) and 122 (5). A packing ring consists of a single block of resilient material having radially-opposite side faces 10, 11, Fig. 2, diverging away from a heel 12 to a region of maximum radial ring width at which the ring is not reinforced and which is capped by a convex crown 14; the resilient material is of uniform character throughout, except where it may be reinforced at the heel by a nylon or laminated fabric reinforcement 17, Fig. 4, or by forming the heel portion of nylon. The crown may be of arcuate form, semihexagonal form as shown in Fig. 2, or of the same shape as the lower portion as shown in Fig. 6.
