Abstract
The final bagasse obtained after extracting sugar juice from prepared, i.e. crushed and/or sliced, sugar cane is passed through one or more screw presses in order to obtain a higher extraction of water and sugar juice therefrom. One or more screw presses may additionally be used in the extraction processes used to obtain the final bagasse and if desired already extracted dilute aqueous sugar juice or water may be added to the bagasse before each pressing after the initial one. The bagasse is preferably conveyed from one screw press, or press rolls if used, to the next, by screw conveyers and fed into each screw press in a controlled manner by means of a vertical screw feed.
