Abstract

934,307. Cartons. UNIPAK CARTONS Ltd. Nov. 21, 1961 [May 11, 1961], No. 41534/61. Class 18. A carton of the type having a tubular body with longitudinal and transverse partition members and a handle attached thereto is formed from a single blank as shown in Fig. 1. Panels 19, 20 form a longitudinal partition when folded together about a crease line 21 and panels 34, 36 and 37 form the transverse partitions being respectively joined to the carton walls by partition end flaps 14, 32 and 39. The handle member 25, 26 is formed so that on erection of the blank it lies between panels 19, 20 and protrudes through an aperture 34. According to the invention there is provided a frangible score line 31 which attaches the handle to the longitudinal partition so that on initial raising of the handle from below the level of the top closure 5, 6 the score line is broken and upward movement is limited by the abutment of shoulders 30 on crease line 22. Downward movement of the handle is limited by the abutment of the lower part of shoulders 30 on a tab 45 in the longitudinal partitions. The glue used is a pressure adhesive and it is arranged to have co-operating panels of glue on the parts which are to be adhered together. Specifications 858,214 and 896,479 are referred to.
