Abstract

933,755. Ropes. DISTILLERS CO. Ltd. June 5, 1962 [June 7, 1961], No. 20488/61. Class 109. [Also in Group V] A rope core 4 of parallel fibres 5 is encased in an extruded sheath of plastic material, the sheath possessing one or more helical ridges 1. The fibres 5 may be of vegetable fibres, or of glass or synthetic plastics, for example of polyamides, polyesters and other linear polymers such as polypropylene, high density polyethylene and polyvinylidene chloride. The sheath may be of natural rubber or thermoplastic such as low or high density polyethylene or blends thereof, polyvinyl chloride and copolymers of vinyl chloride containing a major proportion of polymerized vinyl chloride units. The ridges 1 can be formed by rotating a suitably designed extrusion die as the core 9 is passed therethrough.
