Abstract

932,721. Screw-and-nut gearing. BEAVER PRECISION PRODUCTS Inc. Sept. 8, 1960, No. 30936/60. Class 80 (3). A ball screw assembly includes in the screw 14 an axial bore 34 containing a plug 32 which defines a helical ball return passageway 30 of the same hand as the helical ball track between the nut 10 and the screw 14; the opposite ends of the return passageway 30 communicate with the ball track through curved transfer passageways formed in cylindrical inserts 36 engaged in aligned radial bores extending through the screw 14 into the plug 32, each insert having at its radially-outer end a portion 44 extending into the ball track to direct transference of the balls. Each insert 36 may comprise two halfsections 38 provided with an arcuate groove 40 which form the transfer passageways on assembly; dowel pins 46 secure the inserts 36 to the screw 14. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 862,661.
