Abstract
1342262 Screw-and-nut gearing A MANNESMANN 28 June 1971 [31 Aug 1970] 30252/71 Heading F2Q In a recirculating ball-type screw-and-nut gear the ball nut 3, at each end of the screw thread therein, has a transfer channel 4 for the balls 2, the two transfer channels 4 being connected together by a return channel 5 and having, integrally formed on the nut 3, webs 6, 7 which overlie the transfer channels to form an outwardly extending groove 9 the width of which is smaller than the diameter of the balls which are thus retained therein, closure members 8 at each end of the threaded nut serving to deflect the balls 2 into the transfer recirculating channels whereby in operation a jointless transistion of balls out of the screw threads and into the recirculating channels 4, 5 is achieved. The recirculating channels 4, 5 may be machined in the body of the nut through the grooves 9, or, can be jointly formed together with the grooves in the body of the nut when the nut is produced by a casting or sintering process, the return channel 5 being formed axially parallel or spirally through the wall of the nut.
