Abstract
930,086. Spring suspensions. USTAV PRO VYZKUM MOTOROVYCH VOZIDEL, PRAHA. Jan. 13, 1960, No. 1306/60. Class 108(2). In a spring suspension device, the force of one or more spring suspension members is transmitted between the sprung and unsprung parts of a vehicle by means of a support member, one end of which is mounted on a pivot in one of the parts and the other end of which is coupled to the other of the parts by way of a support cradle with the basic shape of a sector of a disc or cylinder, the arcuate surface of the cradle being arranged to roll on an arcuate guide track for varying the direction of application of the force with respect to the pivot, the rolling movement being either spontaneous or performed manually or automatically to accommodate the hardness of the suspension to the load of the vehicle. In Fig. 1, the axle 7<SP>11</SP> is connected to a chassis girder 46 by a pivoted link 7 having a pivoted flange 3 bearing against the lower end of a spring 1. The upper end of the spring is supported by a member 311 of inverted U shape pivoted at 60 to a sector 6 and having a guide rod 61 in telescopic engagement with the flange 3. A bolt 63 provided with a spring 64 connects the sector to the girder 46. When the axle 7<SP>11</SP> is deflected upwardly, the member 311 pivots anti-clockwise reducing the leverage of the spring. In an alternative construction, links 48, 48<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 4, are loaded by torsion springs 1, 1<SP>1</SP> and are connected to a half axle 7 by sectors 6, 6<SP>1</SP> and links 5, 51, the leverage being varied by movement of the point of contact with the sectors when the axle is deflected. Fig. 6 shows a third construction in which a rear axle 7<SP>11</SP> is pivotally connected with the chassis girder 46 and with a flange 3. An upper flange 3<SP>11</SP> is telescopically guided in the lower flange and pivotally connected by pins 60 to a cradle 6 which rolls automatically during movement of the suspension along the inner surface of a spiral shaped track 8 on a control member 30. The latter is in turn pivotally connected by pins 60<SP>1</SP> to a cradle 6<SP>1</SP> rolling on the inner surface of girder 46 and may be adjusted by a connecting rod 10.
