929,232. Automatic frequency control systems. BLAUPUNKT-WERKE G.m.b.H. July 10, 1959 [July 12, 1958], No. 23707/59. Class 40 (5). In a single sideband television receiver, with the nominal video carrier on one sloping flank of the receiver I.F. pass-band, an additional voltage derived from detected synchronizing pulses is added on to the output of a frequency discriminator tuned to the video carrier for A.F.C. of the local oscillator. Thereby the frequency control range is increased and ambiguities due to more than one zero of the discriminator output avoided. (The rectified sync. pulse amplitude is also dependent on frequency drift.) An additional step-wave voltage arising only when a certain frequency drift is exceeded may be derived from a phase discriminator 58 with inputs 56, 57 receiving sync. pulses from a sync separator stage and sweep voltages from a line output stage respectively and with one output 59 stabilizing a flywheel sync. oscillator controlling the line scan, the other output at 69 being added to a constant positive D.C. voltage and the output of a frequency discriminator 5 tuned to the video nominal I.F. frequency, and the combined output applied to a phase splitter 6 with outputs applied across a rectifier 61 constituting a variable capacitance in the tuned circuit of a local oscillator 60.
