Abstract
926,800. Centrifugal separators. WEST OF SCOTLAND METALLIC WORKS Ltd. March 20, 1962 [Dec. 21, 1960], No. 44002/60. Class 23. Dust-laden gas enters a cyclone separator 10 through an inlet 14 intermediate upper and lower discharge outlets for the gas and dust, respectively, and, after separation of the heavier dust particles, passes with the lighter particles through a multi-cell separator 17 sealingly mounted within the separator 10 and providing the only communication for the upflow of gas between the cyclone dust and gas discharge outlets, the finer dust particles being discharged from the separator 17 through an outlet 19b communicating with the exterior of the cyclone. The inlet 14 may be set at a variable angle. The dust outlet of the separator 17 may extend into that of the cyclone 10 to which is fitted a common discharge valve 20. Alternatively, the separators leave separate discharge outlets which may or may not be provided with valves. To remove the last traces of dust in the discharge gas there may be fitted in the outlet 22 of the cyclone a filter comprising a rotatable hollow sphere made of wire mesh and having internally disposed fine water sprays which are directed on to a mass of charcoal through which the gas passes. The internal wall surface of the cyclone wall may be lined with a wear-resistant layer of cement, rubber or polyvinyl chloride.
