Abstract

926,081. Valve supply circuits. G. R. B. THORNLEY. Dec. 19, 1961 [Nov. 3, 1961], No. 39361/61. Class 40 (6). In a linear power amplifier using a pentode or tetrode having grid bias of constant or zero value, the sole screen supply is obtained by rectification of the input or output signals. As shown in Fig. 3, the audio input signal is rectified by a thermionic or semi-conductor diode R to provide a screen voltage, the value of which is dependent on the level of input signals. Fig. 5 shows a radio frequency power amplifier in which the screen supply is derived by rectifying, at R, the output. A low-pass filter is provided to isolate harmonics introduced by rectification. Fig. 2 (not shown) relates to a circuit similar to that shown in Fig. 5, but wherein the screen supply is derived by rectifying the input signal. Fig. 4 (not shown) relates to a push-pull audio-amplifier in which the screen voltage is obtained by rectifying the voltage across an auxiliary winding on the output transformer. A constant value of grid bias may be obtained by rectifying the heater supply voltage. Specification 742,684 is referred to.
