Abstract

643,915. Valve amplifying circuits. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL, Ltd. March 22, 1948, No. 8398. Convention date, March 25, 1947. Addition to 625,916. [Classes 40 (v) and 40 (vi)] In an amplifier which, as in the parent Specification is self-oscillating and generates an auxiliary tone used to render the gain constant, the signal output is derived from the auxiliary tone by rectification. A valve 1 is back-coupled over a transformer 5 so as to oscillate. Signals applied at terminals 2 produce grid modulation which is detected by a diode 6, an amplified signal output being obtained across the load resistance 8. Part is fed back via a tap to the valve 1 in reverse phase, together with a D.C. automatic amplitude control bias. In a further embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown), the feedback path comprises a resistance-capacity low-pass network ; this arrangement is stated to function as an integrating circuit, the gain being inversely proportional to signal frequency. Regeneration may also be applied for the signal by including in the back-coupling network a transformer resonant at the mean signal frequency.
