Abstract

870,922. Transistor amplifying and gain control circuits. TELEFUNKEN G.m.b.H. Dec. 8, 1959 [Dec. 15, 1958], No. 41684/59. Class 40(6) In a delayed automatic gain control (a.g.c. circuit, the gain controlling potential is fed to the transistor to be controlled via a diode connected for A.C. in parallel with part of the input tuned circuit of the transistor to compensate for the decrease in damping due to change in transistor input resistance with change in a.g.c. potential. The output from the intermediate frequency (i.f.) transformer Z 2 is detected and then amplified by transistor T 3 . Part of the average D.C. signal developed across the load of this transistor is fed back from the base circuit of i.f. amplifier T 1 through the diode D 2 which is effectively in parallel with the base circuit for A.C. signals. The level at which diode D 2 starts to conduct is determined by the potential dividers R 8 , R 9 and R 7 , and when conducting it applies a.g.c. volts to the base of T 1 , and also compensates for changes in input impedance of T 1 . The circuit may be arranged to provide over, under, or exact compensation. In a second embodiment Fig. 3 (not shown) the a.g.c. voltage is applied to control a radio frequency amplifier, from which a connection is taken from the emitter or collector over a resistor to control the gain of an i.f. stage.
