Abstract

925,051. Extruding. T. E. HUTCH. Feb. 26, 1962, No. 7346/62. Class 83 (4). An hydraulic extrusion press has its extrusion stem 18 slidable within a secondary cylinder 17 in the main piston 12 but which can be locked to the main piston by means 24. This enables both piston 12 and stem 18 to be retracted for insertion of a new billet, thereby reducing the length of the press. Piston 12 is secured to a cross-head 13 slidable on tie-rods 19 and containing an hydraulically-operated latch 24 which enters a slot 28 in the stem for locking them together during the extrusion stroke.
