Abstract

Pulverized iron having surfaces coated only with iron oxide is prepared by mixing the iron with an aqueous solution of an organic acid which evaporates below 350 DEG C., and then heating the mixture to a temperature above the boiling point of the acid but below 350 DEG C. Acids particularly referred to are formic, acetic, oxalic, tartaric and lactic.
