Abstract

924,556. Diaphragm pumps. D. J. BATTERSBY. July 8, 1959 [June 9, 1958], No. 18298/58. Class 102(1). [Also in Group XXIII] A diaphragm pump for a windscreen washer comprises a corrugated bellows 10 enclosed in a rigid casing or shell 11. The open end of the bellows is secured to an end member 12 of the shell provided with tubes for connection of the inlet and outlet pipes 25, 33. The closed end of the bellows is attached to a manually operated push button 18 which slides in an externally threaded extension 17 of the shell. The inlet pipe 25 extends to the bottom of a liquid reservoir and is provided with a non- return valve while the pipe 33 extends to a spray nozzle of the type described in Specification 924,557, provided with a non-return valve. The length of the shell 11 is preferably such that the bellows is under a slight compression when assembled in the shell.
