Abstract

730,331. Diaphragm pumps. SUISSE, M. March 12, 1953 [March 19, 1952 ; May 28, 1952; Oct. 4, 1952], No. 6851/53. Class 102 (1). [Also in Group XXIII] Relates to a manually operable diaphragm pump in a windscreen washer system (see Group XXIII). The pump 4 comprises a cylindrical casing, one end of which is provided with an inlet port connection by a conduit 2 to a reservoir 1 and one or more outlet ports each connected by a conduit 12 to a spray nozzle 13, a cap 5 screwed to the other end of the casing, a flexible diaphragm 6 fitted within the casing and a manually operable diaphragm actuating member 7 extending centrally through the cap 5. The conduit connections to the pump 4 are provided with ball valves and a filter 3 is provided in the conduit connection to the reservoir. Water is expressed from the nozzle or nozzles 13 by pushing the member 7 to the left in the Figure, and the pump is refilled from the reservoir by gravity. In another embodiment the diaphragm of the pump is also cup shaped as shown, but the open mouth of the cup is disposed adjacent the cap 5 instead of as shown. The centre of the diaphragm is secured to a pull rod and each nozzle fitting in this case is provided with a ball valve instead of the arrangement shown. Moreover a ball valve is housed in a conduit fitting on the reservoir and the conduits are clamped to the pump casing end by means of tubular rivets.
