Abstract
923,690. Heat recuperators. WESTOFEN G.m.b.H. June 30, 1961 [July 9, 1960], No. 23766/61. Class 64 (3). In a recuperator in which a gas such as air is heated when flowing transversely over spaced vertical tubes through which flows a heating fluid, e.g. waste gas from a furnace; each tube comprises a stack of tubular sections 15 superimposed one upon the other end to end, each section being formed at each extreme end with a transversely projecting peripheral flange 18 one surface of which constitutes the horizontal end surface of the section, which end surface is formed with a continuous annular groove 19 extending around the bore of the section to receive a packing ring. The flanges can be of any polygonal profile, e.g. hexagonal, square, but all the flanges must be identical. The tubes are arranged with the flat edges of the flanges of one tube in abutting relationship to the flanges of adjacent tubes, thus forming horizontal partitions defining transverse flow passages in the recuperator for the air or other gas being heated. Each tubular section between its flanges is of cylindrical external form.
