Abstract
922,193. Charging and discharging capacitors. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Aug. 7, 1959 [Aug. 8, 1958], No. 27101/59. Class 38 (4). An electric ignition device for explosive detonators Mz comprises a main capacitor C1 charged positively through a rectifier Gl1 below the breakdown voltage of a spark gap Sp1 and an ignition capacitor C3 fed through a resistor R3 from an auxiliary capacitor C2 charged negatively through another rectifier Gl2. The capacitor C1 is charged to a peak voltage of 1100 volts and when the ignition capacitor C3 reaches a value of 300 volts spark gap Sp1 breaks down which causes a spark gap Sp2 having a breakdown value of 600 volts to pass the capacitor C1 charge to the detonators. The resistor R3 and capacitor C2 are sized so that the capacitor C1 reaches its maximum voltage before the capacitor C3 reaches 300 volts. The circuit may be supplied from the mains or from a spring-driven A.C. generator G. R1 and R2 are discharge resistors and R4 substantially prevents C1 discharging into C3. Short-circuiting switches (not shown) may also be provided to discharge the capacitors.
