[Also in Group XXXI] A pneumatic distributer valve assembly comprises a control 1 acting on a balancing lever 2<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>11</SP> controlling two distributers 3, 3<SP>1</SP>, having push-rods 9, 9<SP>1</SP> acted on by lever 2<SP>1</SP>, 2<SP>11</SP> to open valves 4, 4<SP>1</SP> against spring bias, a secondary control 15, 16 acting on the push-rod 9<SP>1</SP> for opening valve 4<SP>1</SP>, and means to cause valve 4<SP>1</SP> to open before valve 4. Opening of valves 4, 4<SP>1</SP> supplies compressed air to tractor and trailer brakes via outlets 5, 5<SP>1</SP> respectively, a spring 14 causing trailer valve 4<SP>1</SP> to open before valve 4. The valve 4<SP>1</SP> can be opened by hand lever 15 and rod 16 normally biased by spring 18 against a cylindrical stop 17. Plates 11, 11<SP>1</SP> on rods 9, 91 carry cylinders 12, 12<SP>1</SP> which are guided by fixed spheres 13, 13<SP>1</SP>. On opening of valve 4<SP>1</SP>, the piston 6<SP>1</SP> operates a switch 20 controlling the vehicle stop lights; and a switch 19 operated through spring 25 and cup 27 on rod 1 is closed to operate an exhaust brake on the tractor before the main brakes are applied. When cup 27 is moved against spring 26 as well as a spring 24 the valves 4, 4<SP>1</SP> are opened and the operator is then aware of such opening; the cup eventually engages a stop 28 to limit the maximum braking pressure. A rod 30 can be engaged with plate 32 to limit movement of rod 1 and hence the maximum braking pressure when the vehicle is not loaded.
