Abstract

A synthetic lube oil based on neutral organic carboxylic esters contains, as an antioxidant, one or more alkoxyamines of the formula (R1O)m-Ar-NH-Ar1-(OR11)n where Ar is benzene, Ar1 is benzene or naphthalene (both Ar and Ar1 can have alkyl substituents), R1 and R11 are saturated alkyl and, taken together, contain 8-20 C atoms, m is 1 or 2; and n is zero or 1. In addition, a water-insoluble polyoxyalkylene glycol ether, a phenothiazine derivative (which may be alkoxy-substituted); heterocyclic metal deactivators, e.g. benzotriazole and the others disclosed in Specification 824,114; and chlorinated di- or poly-phenyls. Lists of suitable ingredients are given and the esters specified include di esters and complex esters, the latter including hindered esters, e.g. T.M.P. esters.
