Abstract
921,181. Thermal switches. IDEAL CORPORATION. May 9, 1961, No. 16887/61. Class 38 (5). A snap-action switch comprises a preferably trifurcated spring blade, the outer limbs 12 being mounted at 16 to an adjustable member 35, and the inner member 14 being secured at 17 so as to assume a reversely curved formation which always crosses the line of tension of the limbs 12 and is so arranged as to apply a unidirectional movement M urging contacts 50, 51 together. In one arrangement, differential expansion of the outer and inner limbs due to current flow through the outer limbs causes the blade to snap the contacts open. In another form (Figs. 6-8, not shown), the outer limbs are operated by a " hot wire."
