920,427. Varying zone length in textile drafting mechanism. MANUFACTURE ALSACIENNE DE BROCHES. April 7, 1960 [April 10, 1959], No. 12408/60. Class 120 (2). So that the length of the drafting zone of the mechanism shown in Fig. 1 may be varied to suit fibres of different staple lengths, all but one of the interchangeable, upper back rollers 6, 7, 8 are so constructed (e.g. as in Fig. 7) that they do not provide a positive nip with their corresponding lower rollers 2, 3 or 4 all of which are driven at substantially the same speed : the roller which does provide a positive nip with any of the bottom rollers (i.e. roller 6 in Fig. 1) may then be positioned at any of the top roller mountings to give the required length of zone. Adjustment in the separation of the back roller mountings may also be provided to make possible a finer adjustment in the length of the drafting zone. The medial recesses shown in Fig. 7 for the rollers 7 and 8 may be formed either by cutting from a solid roller or by mounting two spaced resilient collars on a solid bar or by mounting on a solid bar a suitably shaped sleeve of rubber or metal. The lower rollers 1, 2, 3, 4 may be fluted, have corrugations or spokes or have coverings of resilient material. More than three pairs of rear rollers may be provided and aprons 18 and 19 are associated with one of these pairs.
