Abstract
920,377. Presses for separating liquids from solids. RHEWUM RHEINISCHE WERKZEUG-UND MASCHINENFABRIK G.m.b.H. Feb. 20, 1961 [Feb. 20, 1960], No. 6085/61. Class 46. [Also in Group XIII]. A roller press for draining wet colloidal material, such as sewage sludge, fed through a basin 18 and controlled by a gate valve 19, comprises a water collecting container 15 and a screen band 3 of metal mesh led around two guide drums 1, 2, and through at least one roller arrangement, the latter consisting of a pressure roller 6 and two relatively small supporting rollers 10, 9 spaced apart and so arranged that any material on the band is nipped between the pressure roller and each supporting roller in turn. A further arrangement 5, 8, 7, is provided. The screen band, on leaving each roller arrangement, is oscillated by a vibrator 25 or 24 respectively, for loosening the parts of the sludge cake enmeshed in the screen, and knocking them off from the under surface thereof. A shredding roller 21 roughens the sludge cake from the first roller arrangement so that it becomes absorbent and may be used as a filter if a new supply of wet sludge or sludge water is supplied to the screen band from a pipe 22. Each roller is cleaned by a scraper. Some or all of the rollers and drums are provided with an outer elastomeric layer of, e.g. rubber or plastic.
