Abstract

920,326. Securing elements to shafts. RANSOMES SIMS & JEFFERIES Ltd., and J. S. JARVIS. Nov. 4, 1959 [Aug. 11, 1958], No. 25735/58. Class 80 (2). In locating a ball or roller bearing on a crank-shaft 1, the bearing 5 is axially clamped against a circumferential shoulder 4 of a splitsleeve 3 which is on the crankshaft journal 2. On assembling, the bearing 5 is fitted over the sleeve 3 and both are locked in position by a ring 6 having tapped holes 8 with set-screws 7 therein which pass through holes 9 in the sleeve and engage the journal 2. The bearing is axially locked by set-screws 11, Fig. 2, engaged in tapped holes 12 of the ring 6. In an embodiment the sleeve 3, Fig. 3, is externally screw-threaded at 13 to receive a nut 14, and a flange 17 on the ring 16 replaces the set-screws 11. The bearing is locked by tightening the nut 14 against an interposed washer 15 so that the bearing is urged towards a ring 16, locked to the journal by screws 18.
