Abstract
Solutions of alkali metal or ammonium salts of Caro's acid are prepared by reacting hydrogen peroxide and a persulphate in the presence of at least 2 mols. of sulphuric acid and not more than 1 mol. of water per mol. of active oxygen present in the reaction mixture. The sulphuric acid is preferably concentrated or fuming, and the reaction temperature is preferably kept at 40 DEG -70 DEG C. The solutions may thereafter be cooled, adjusted with alkali to a pH of 1-2, and evaporated to dryness, to give the solid alkali metal or ammonium salts of Caro's acid.
