Abstract
919,663. Rolling discs. KELSEY-HAYES CO. Jan. 31, 1961 [Feb. 3, 1960], No. 3598/61. Class 83 (4). In a mill for rolling discs to a tapered contour, a pair of rolls is moved axially during rolling, each roll having a freely rotatable confining portion which constrains and partially reduces the disc before reduction by the rolling portion of the roll. As shown, on each side of two discs D, rotated by a support 22 for rolling simultaneously, are pairs of rolls 51b, 52b and 51a, 52a which, when moved axially are caused to pivot at 54, rollers 81b and 82b on the roll housings moving along wedges 83b and 84b to reduce the pass and taper the discs. A cylinder 67, Fig. 1, moves the rolls axially, a rod 75 and rack and pinion ensuring equal movement of both roll pairs. A doubleacting cylinder 36 firmly holds the discs against the support 22, and wedges 90b and 91b, adjustable by cylinders 92 and 93b allow the width of the pass to vary. The roll pairs are driven by motors 60a and 60b. The freelyrotatable portion 118 of rolls 111 and 110, Fig. 3, are held in bearing surfaces 120, 122 and 124.
