Abstract
918,306. Metallurgical converters. DEMAG A.G. May 8, 1959 [May 10, 1958], No. 15961/59. Class 72. A tiltable metallurgical converter which is rotatable about its longitudinal axis in bearing- rings supported on rollers is provided with locking or clamping means to prevent the converter vessel, when moved out of the inclined position, from moving out of bearing contact with the rollers. As shown, a converter vessel 1 is supported by bearing-rings 7 on rollers mounted in supports 3 on two rings forming a tilting frame 4, movement in one axial direction being prevented by rollers 6. Two devices comprising wedges 18 are provided to lock the vessel in position when the frame is fitted to hold the vessel vertically and two further devices may also be provided which operate in opposition to the rollers 6. A cam 10, Fig. 3, on the vessel may operate a contact 12 to start a motor 15 which forces a wedge 18 between a support 20 and a clamp 19, the latter engaging the bearing- ring 7. The wedge 18 may be adjustable on a spindle of the motor 15 which may be replaced by an electromagnet.
