Abstract
916,825. Photo-electric machinery guards. LICENTIA PATENT - VERWALTUNGS - G.m.b.H. Jan. 18, 1961 [Jan. 19, 1960], No. 2048/61. Class 80 (4). In a photo-electric barrier comprising a light source 1 and at least one light-sensitive element 12, particularly for protecting a press, the source 1 comprises a fluorescent or filament tubular lamp surrounded by a cylinder 2 having one or more helical light passages 8 therein, the cylinder 2 being rotated by a motor 3 and being positioned adjacent a slit diaphragm 6 and cylindrical lens 7 so that as the cylinder 2 rotates one or more traversing beams of light emerge from the lens 7 to form a light curtain and are directed on to the element 12 by a lens 9, slit diaphragm 10 and collimating mirror 11. The passages 8 may be provided by helical slits in the wall of an opaque cylinder or by foil wrapped around a transparent cylinder. The element 12 may comprise a photo-electric cell, a photo-diode or a photo-transistor, and may control a switch or warning apparatus.
