Abstract

Pharmaceutical compositions having anti-anaphylactic activity comprise an alkanolamine of the general formula <FORM:0915813/VI/1> wherein R1 and R2 are hydrogen atoms or C1-6 alkyl radicals and R3 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl or ethyl radical or an ester, acid addition salt or quaternary ammonium compound thereof in admixture with an anti-tussive (e.g. codeine or pholcodine), an antihistaminic (e.g. mepyramine maleate or phenindamine tartrate), an anti-asthmatic (e.g. adrenaline or ephedrine), a corticosteroid (e.g. prednisolene or triameinolene), an antibiotic (e.g. tetracycline or chloramphenicol), an anti-inflammatory agent (e.g. aspirin, cortisone, xanthoglabrol, glycyrrhetinic acid or derivatives thereof) or a bronchodilator (e.g. ephedrine and xanthines). The compositions may be in conventional pharmaceutical forms, e.g. an inhalation, acerosol, tablet, injection, enema, suppository, ointment, lotion or suspension which may comprise appropriate solid and liquid carriers or diluents. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 864,100.
