A motor lawn-mower has an endless belt drive arranged around a triangular group of pulleys consisting of a pulley i driven by the motor f, a pulley j on the cutting cylinder spindle and a pulley k mounted on a spindle in the side plate a and carrying a pinion l meshing with a toothed annulus m secured to the land roller e. The belt is tightened on the pulleys by means of a pivoted arm n loaded by a spring p to bring a roller s into contact with a run of the belt g. Connected to an intermediate point of the arm n is one end of a pair of toggle links t, u the other end of the pair being pivotally connected to the side plate at v. The links are straightened by means of a cable y and rod w to move the arm n about its pivot and withdraw the rollers from the belt.
