915,168. Strap fastenings. HARLEY PATENTS (INTERNATIONAL) Ltd., and HARLEY, F. B. July 3, 1961 [July 8, 1960], No. 23993/60. Class 44. A releasable connector comprises a cup 20 having apertures 50 to receive plates attached to the shoulder and lap straps of a safety harness, the plates being formed with holes 16 engageable with spring-urged bolts 52 which project through apertures in a disc 25 slidably mounted in the cup. The disc carries a post 29 formed with cam surfaces 30 and coaxial with a tube 35 provided with a transverse pin 39, the projecting ends of which act as camfollowers. An actuating knob 40 is secured to the tube 35 and has a central boss 45 having a cut 47 to receive the ends of the pin 39 so that rotation of the knob turns the pin and tube, the pin riding over the surfaces 30 to lower the post 29 and hence the disc 25. The bolts 52 are thus forced downwardly clear of the holes 16 so that the plates may be withdrawn from the connector, the bolt 60 still engaging the plate 11 so that the connector is permanently secured to a lap strap. A release member 70 is pivoted in an aperture in the actuating knob and has two projections 74 extending through a slot 75 and overlying the bolts 52 corresponding to the shoulder straps so that when the member 70 is depressed the projections force down these bolts so that the shoulder straps may be released from the connector.
