Abstract

The invention comprises 4-sulphanilamido-6-halogeno-pyrimidines such as 4-sulphanilamido-6-chloro-pyrimidine, and salts thereof; and comprises also the preparation of these compounds by reacting a 4,6-dihalo-pyrimidine, e.g. 4,6-dichloro-, dibromo- or diiodopyrimidine, with the sodium salt of sulphanilamide. Pharmaceutical preparations having antibacterial activity comprise the above compounds of the invention in association with an organic or inorganic, solid or liquid carrier suitable for enteral or parenteral administration. The preparations suitably take the form of tablets, dragees, suppositories, capsules, solutions, emulsions or suspensions and may contain emulsifying, preserving, stabilizing or wetting agents, salts for varying the osmolic pressure or buffers, and other therapeutically useful substances.
