Abstract
913,466. Pressure exchangers. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT) Ltd. Dec. 8, 1960 [Dec. 22, 1959], No. 43453/59. Class 8(1). 26 Pressure exchanger plant for producing an output of fluid at a temperature lower than any input fluid comprises a pressure equaliser in circuit with a pressure exchanger. The pressure equaliser may be an injector or a pressure exchanger operating as a pressure equaliser. The plant shown in Fig. 1 is used particularly for supplying cooling air in a mine and comprises a pressure equaliser 1 driven by a motor 3 and having inlet ducts 6, 7 connected respectively to a ventilating air duct 10 and a high pressure air source 11. The intermediate pressure outlet duct 12 is connected to the high pressure scavenge stage duct 24 of a pressure exchanger 13 up or down stream of a heat exchanger 25. The low pressure scavenge stage inlet 18 is connected to the duct 10 and cooled air is discharged to duct 21. The equaliser/exchanger 1 may be replaced by an injector the inner nozzle of which is connected to the duct 11 and the outer to the duct 10.
