Abstract
913,070. Exhaust silencers. SOC. BERTIN & CIE. June 15, 1959 [July 1, 1958], No. 20391/59. Addition to 850,404. Class 7(2) [Also in Group XXVI] A silenced exhaust gas discharge nozzle as claimed in Claim 1 of the parent Specification which comprises lateral air conduits extending obliquely relative to the axis of the nozzle and a gas discharge passage having its inlet located between the air conduits and its outlet completely surrounding the outlet of the air conduits, has the gas discharge passage outlet arranged so that it encompasses the major part of the periphery of each of a plurality of separate air conduits. The jet pipe 1 has radial and oblique conduits 2 regularly distributed over its circumference arranged to form a peripheral gap 3 and radial passages 4 for the exit of the exhaust gases. The conduits 2 are of substantially constant cross-section or preferably slightly convergent in the direction of the air flow #. Fig. 6 shows a removable pipe designed to reduce the noise of a jet propelled aircraft on the ground. The pipe is attached to the exhaust end of the aircraft by a resilient joint 17a and comprises a divergent portion 18 to prevent back pressure on the engine. A second wall 21 which may be made of a sound damping material, e.g. a light metal or a plastic material or a material covered with a sound damping coating or paint, carries the air to the tubular conduits 20. An exhaust Venturi 23 also made of sound damping material may also be used.
