Abstract
912,831. Valves. UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CORPORATION. Feb. 25, 1959 [Feb. 26, 1958 (2)], No. 6479/59. Class 135. A valve device comprises a cam member 20, formed by inner and outer members 21, 24, which is circular at its ends and elliptoidal in the centre and is rotatable within a flexible tubular valve element 36 sealed within a casing 38 and co-operating with ports 41, 41<SP>1</SP> and 42, 42<SP>1</SP>. The cam member 20, valve member 36 and casing 38 may be made of any suitable elastic metal such as steel, bronze or the like although the elements 36 and 38 may be of plastic or elastomers such as nylon, polyethylene, rubber or neoprene. The inner cam member 21 has an elliptoidal periphery and the outer member 24 is of varying thickness and adjustable thereon. The relative angular adjustment of the members 21, 24 of the cam 20 may be effected after assembly from an initial circular form for insertion in the tubular valve member 36. The elements are then suitably keyed together in adjusted position. A strain-wave gearing as described in Specification 790,171 may be employed to adjusting the elements 21, 24 relatively to one another.
