Abstract

912,732. Drying apparatus. MULLERS, K. A. Sept. 28, 1961 [Feb. 21, 1961], No. 34955/61. Class 34 (1). Drying apparatus comprises a plurality of rotatable drying cylinders forming a train characterized in that only the first drying cylinder is directly driven while all subsequently located drying cylinders are driven from the first cylinder, a friction clutch with adjustable frictional pressure being provided between the drive of each subsequently located cylinder and the cylinder itself or a drive shaft thereof. A series of rotatable drying cylinder 10 form a train (not shown), only the first of which is directly driven while all the remainder are driven therefrom, each subsequent cylinder having a friction clutch which comprises a disc 13 mounted so as to be non-rotatable on a drive shaft 12 of the cylinder which is axially movable toward a drive disc 11 on the shaft under the influence of a lever 20, 21 controlled by a cylinder 15 having a pressure piston 25 therein operated by an hydraulic or pneumatic pressure medium. All the pressure cylinders are connected to a common pressure medium line 16. The arms 20, 21 of the lever are of different length, the arm 20 acting on the friction disc 13 having a length which is a multiple of the arm 21 co-operating with the piston 15. A main control valve and pressure indicator are mounted in the line 16 respectively for adjustment and supervision of the pressure in the line, and each pressure cylinder has an adjusting valve 17.
