Abstract

The invention comprises O-dichloroacetyl-DL-serine derivatives of the general formula <FORM:0911489/IV (b)/1> (wherein R represents hydrogen, methyl or ethyl) and non-toxic addition salts thereof. These compounds may be prepared by reacting serine or its methyl or ethyl ester with glacial dichloroacetic acid and hydrogen chloride gas or dichloroacetic anhydride in the presence of an inert solvent, or by treating the corresponding N-dichloroacetyl compounds with a strong inorganic acid in the presence of an inert solvent. The products have anti-tumour activity, and may be administered with the usual excipients.
