Abstract

911,350. Suspension bridges. ROBERTS, G. April 24, 1961 [May 16. 1960], No. 17207/60. Class 20 (1). The deck of a suspension bridge is constituted by an elongated box structure having sharp longitudinal edges 18, and is attached to the bridge cables 14 by hangers 15 of inverted V- shape, the angle (less than 35 degrees) between the arms of a hanger being dependent upon its position along the deck, Fig. 3 (not shown). The side spans of the bridge may be of similar box construction; the centre and side spans being articulated to the support towers.
