Abstract
910,620. Shovelling machines. GREAT WESTERN CONSOLIDATED CO. LIABILITY. April 29, 1960 [April 30, 1959], No. 15194/60. Class 68 (1). In order that an overthrow shovel excavator may operate satisfactorily on relatively steep inclines the guideways 7a over which the curved portions 4 of the shovel-supporting rocker arms roll have rear portions 20 so shaped that the rocker arms on reaching these portions of the guideways pivot thereupon. Also, a wheeled bogey 19, 20 rigidly secured to the front of the wheeled chassis of the excavator increases the stability of the whole excavator. The shovel 3 is pivotally mounted at 21 on a forward extension of the rocker arms. The wheels 13b of the excavator are freely mounted on a shaft 14 on which are secured at either end thereof winch drums. When the shaft 14 is driven the drums wind in on or pay out a fixed cable 16 so that the machine can be advanced or withdrawn as desired.
