Abstract
909,562. Control of several D.C. motors. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 30, 1959 [Dec. 31, 1958], No. 42224/58. Class 38 (3). Motors M1, M2 are supplied from a D.C. generator G1, the speed and torque of the motors being determined by a signal voltage V controlling an amplifier V1, V2, so as to supply excitation currents of selected polarity to field windings F1, F2 of an exciter E2. The field poles of the motors are furnished with shortcircuited damping windings D1, D2 arranged in the faces of the poles in order to decrease the virtual inductance and increase the virtual resistance of the armature circuit under transient conditions. As shown, the exciter E2 is connected in cascade with the exciter E1 for the generator G1. Alternatively, the machines El, E2 may be replaced by a single machine of the cross-armature-reaction excited type. Exciter E2 has field winding F3 in series with the armature windings of the motors and acting in opposition to the excitation provided by the windings F1, F2. A feedback transformer for anti-hunting has primary winding P1 in the motor circuit, secondary winding S1 energizing field winding F4 of exciter E2, and secondary winding S2 in circuit with the armature of exciter E2 and the field winding FE1 of exciter E1.
