591,028. Automatic control systems. MASON, F. R., and METROPOLITAN - VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. April 23, 1945, No. 10171. [Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVII] Current.-A generator G for maintaining a predetermined current supply to the armatures AM1 and AM2 of motors driving connected sections of a machine (such as sections of a paper mill or wire-drawing, machine) is excited by an armature-reaction type exciter M having a main field winding 13 opposed by winding 15 energized according to the armature current of machine G and by winding 14 energized according to the field current of motors AM1 and AM2 ; the field currents of the motors are individually controlled, e.g. by regulating resistances 7 and 8. The exciter thus tends to keep the total armature current of the motors at the predetermined value ; the torque of one motor can be adjusted independently of the other by the field regulator 7 or 8 and the resulting compensating change in the current in exciter field winding 14 modifies the total armature current maintained and so prevents a change in the torque of the other motor.
