Abstract

908,939. Two-part couplings. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. July 10, 1959 [July 11, 1958], No. 23782/59. Class 38 (1). A socket connector for a printed circuit board 2 comprises a plurality of contact-members 1 mounted side-by-side on an elongated support 12 and insulated from each other, each member having two contacting surfaces spaced transversely of the support to make double contact with one side of the board. Another elongated element 12<SP>1</SP> generally parallel to the support is mounted to be movable so as to allow insertion of a printed circuit board, or clamping thereof. An " M " or " V " shaped contact element 1 with contacting surfaces 3 is held in each slot 9 in an insulating casing 7 by means of widened parts 8, 8<SP>1</SP> on the contact being urged against wings 1 1 on casing 7 by a spring 4. A printed circuit board 2 may engage the contacts and is clamped in position by turning an eccentric screw 15 associating a stiffening beam 12 carrying the casing 7 and a similar beam 12<SP>1</SP>, thus deforming the contact elements 11 1<SP>11</SP>, Fig. 5, the widened parts 8, 8<SP>1</SP> leaving the wings 11. Contacts may be established on both sides of the printed circuit board 2 if the beam 12<SP>1</SP> is also associated with a contact carrying casing.
