908,769. Endless conveyers for hauling cables and other elongated articles. CARTER & CO. Ltd., B. & F. Oct. 17, 1960 [July 25, 1959], No. 25596/59. Class 78 (1). A device for hauling a cable 12 or other elongated article comprises a pair of endless driven track members 13 between which the article is gripped and which are carried by casings 14, the upper casing being normally fixed in position while the lower casing is pivoted by a stub axle 22 to a plate 24b extending between sleeves 24a, which are slidable on two pillars 15 so as to accommodate variations in the thickness of the article, pressure being applied upwardly to the lower casing to cause the article to be gripped between the track members. The pressure-applying means comprises two pneumatic or hydraulic cylinders 40b pivoted to supports 41 and having their pistonrods pivotally connected to opposite ends of the lower casing. The upper casing is mounted for vertical adjustment by providing it with integral sleeves 16 engaging the pillars 15, adjustment being effected by screw-and-nut mechanism 18a, 18b to enable the minimum separation of the endless track members to be varied. Locking levers 17b are operated to hold the upper casing in adjusted position. Each endless track comprises a chain carrying resilient pads 13a. A roller 42 guides the cable 12 into the device.
