Abstract

<FORM:0908709/IV(a)/1> Cordage exhibiting flexibility and a high degree of elasticity without tending to untwist is formed from filaments of a thermoplastic material that becomes crystallized on stretching by drawing unstretched filaments through an aperture of less cross-sectional area than the total cross-sectional area of the unstretched filaments. Preferably, undrawn filaments are passed through a drawing die and looped over a spindle rotating to twist the filaments, and the die or the filaments are moved to stretch the latter. The cordage produced by the invention has little intersticial space for, as shown in Fig. IIb, the filaments deform to occupy the circular crosssection.
