A machine particularly for earthing up potatoes comprises a frame which can be coupled to a tractor and which carries a set of tool shafts 6, 7, 8 driven by the tractor power shaft and provided with cutter heads 18, 19, 20, the tool shafts being inclined at an angle of from 10-20 degrees to the vertical so that the soil is worked at two different levels, the upper layer being thrown to one side and the lower layer being thrown to the opposite side. A V-shaped plate is provided directly behind each of the cutting heads.
