Abstract

906,633. Protective arrangements. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 11, 1959 [Feb. 11, 1958], No. 4450/58. Class 38 (5). In a remote control system such as that described in Specification 700,472, a lamp 25, Fig. 1, is connected across a winding 19 of the pilot relay 3 and the circuit constants are such that when the control switch 6 is in its " start " or " run " position and no fault exists, the RMS voltage across the lamp due to the half wave current in the pilot circuit is insufficient for the lamp to glow. When an earth fault occurs on the pilot circuit, the rectifier 11 is short-circuited so that alternating current flows in the pilot circuit causing the relay to open and the increased RMS voltage across the lamp causes it to glow to indicate the presence of the fault. In another arrangement, Fig. 2, in which discrimination between half-wave and full conditions is provided by a capacitor 22 and a resistor 23 connected across the relay coil 21, the lamp 27 may be connected across the relay coil, across the capacitor or across the resistor, but not in series with the capacitor and resistor.
