Abstract

906,015. Centrifugal switches. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT) Ltd. June 23, 1960 [June 23, 1959], No. 21551/59. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XXVI] At a predetermined speed a centrifugal mechanism trips a mechanical or electrical relay and stops the machine driving it. The centrifugal mechanism comprises a rotatable disc 1 on which is pivoted a bell-crank lever 11 carrying at one end a bob-weight 14. The other end is pivoted to a toggle 4, 9, the link 4 being pivoted about the rotational axis of the disc. A spring 6 is connected to the disc at one end and to the knee 5 of the toggle at the other. At a given speed the bob-weight overcomes the spring resistance, and lever 11 snaps up and engages a ring 17, which forms part of an electrical relay 18 so causing the driving machine to stop. To restart, the actuating mechanism is reset manually. In Fig. 3 (not shown), two diametrically-opposed bell-crank levers engage the underside of a plate which is vertically movable on the driving shaft of the disc 1 and is restrained at its upper surface by a spring-biased lever system similar to Fig. 1. At a given speed the vertically movable plate is urged upwards and engages, or causes the lever system to engage, a relay actuating device.
