Abstract
905,905. Clamps. BOULTON SCAFFOLDING Ltd. June 12, 1961 [June 10, 1960], No. 20406/60. Class 44. Relates to scaffold or like clamps comprising a body 1 of which opposite ends are adapted to be inserted respectively into adjacent ends of two tubes 5 and which is provided with an external central projection for abutment by the tube ends, a clamping-plate 2 which is assembled in spaced relationship to the centre and extends lengthwise of the body, and adjustable means for applying pressure to the plate for gripping the tube ends between the body and the plate. According to the invention, the body 1 is cylindrical, a bolt 3, of which the shank extends diametrically through the body 1 midway between the body ends, is secured to the body with the head 6 and shank projecting respectively to opposite sides of the body, a clamping plate 2 having a central hole, being assembled to the body by engaging the bolt shank and the hole and a nut 4 screwed on to the shank externally of the plate 2 so that it is adapted to apply clamping pressure to the plate. As shown, the length of the plate 2 is greater than that of the body and is formed with strengthening ribs 7, 8. The bolt 3 is a T-bolt having its head secured permanently to one side of the body. A central boss may be formed around the bolt hole and the body which abuts the plate 2 and the plate may be angular in cross-section.
